EU: Malt shipments increase by 16.4% between July 2020 and 27 June 2021

EU malt shipments between July 2020 and 27 June 2021 amounted to 3.033 mln tonnes (barley equivalent) versus 2.606 during the same period in the previous season - an increase of 16.4%, H. M. Gauger GmbH reported earlier in July.

The main destinations for European malt were: Brazil with 442 thousand tonnes, Nigeria with 261 thousand, Japan with 162, Vietnam with 157, and Cambodia with 125 thousand tonnes.

The largest shippers were: Belgium which exported 975 thousand tonnes, France with 572 thousand, Germany with 563, and the Netherlands with 359 thousand tonnes.

FranceAgriMer reports France’s barley use for malt production in 2020/21 at 1.57 mln tonnes versus last year’s 1.58 mln.

Germany barley malt production is reported at 1.363 mln tonnes in July/March 2020/21 (same period last season: 1.442 mln tonnes), wheat malt at 107 thousand tonnes (last year: 118 thousand).
